Meet Lonnie Ford | Owner of Wings On The Fly Food Trucks
We had the good fortune of connecting with Lonnie Ford and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lonnie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
If you can work hard for others, why not work just as hard for yourself. I always wanted to be an entrepreneur. I didn’t know early on what I really wanted to do but I knew I wanted to be my own boss. I was fortunate to grow up and be around other business owners and have a couple of role models in my life that was transparent with their entrepreneurial journey.
What should our readers know about your business?
Wings On The Fly Food Truck Specializes In Hotwings and Loaded Fries. Our slogan pretty much sums up who we are “Service That’s Fast, Taste That Last’s” We bring convenience to the workplace or private event along with fast service without compromising having good tasting food. We’ve done events where we had to serve 800 people in two hours and we’ve hosted private events with 20 people. We love serving people and having fun. We people order us your not just getting a food truck your getting an experience.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Memphis has a lot to offer visitors and people who come. The civil rights museum is the best in the country. Outside of the White House, Elvis house is the most visited house in the world. Flight restaurant is one of the top 50 restaurants in the country. The music history here is rich. You got Blues Hall of Fame Museum, lots of live music from different bars on Beal Street. You got the Underground Railroad. I will definitely take them to get some good BBQ at Cozy Corner. We definitely will have to stop by Makedas Cookie Shop as well.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Becoming successful in life and in business is a journey and there’s a lot of people who have contributed to me being a success. I’d like to give a shout out to my Pastor, Anthony King. It was at Faith International Ministry Center Church that my faith was developed to believe the unbelievable and receive the impossible. I’d like to give a shout out to Donald Crump for taking me up under his wings as a teenager and teaching me business at an early age. I’d like to thank my whole South Memphis community off Alcy Rd, everyone in some shape or fashion has helped me become the person who you see today.
